Now more than ever, an electronic payment of your tax liabilities is a great option, as well as an electronic payment of federal estimated tax payments. The IRS provides several methods of paying taxes electronically. You can:
- Schedule your payment online through the Electronic Federal Tax Payments System (EFTPS) or Direct Pay. Payments can be scheduled 365 days in advance with the EFTPS system and 30 days in advance for Direct Pay.
- Schedule your payment by phone or using your mobile device and the IRS2Go app.
- Have the funds automatically withdrawn from your bank account when you electronically file your return.
- Use debit or credit cards, although this isn’t recommended because the card company will charge a merchant fee for the transaction. The IRS gets none of the fee.
You can also cancel and reschedule payments.
