Tax Exemption Expiring Soon

For several businesses, their sales and use tax exemption certificate may be expiring at the end of the month on June 30, 2021. If your tax exemption certificate was issued on, or before, July 1, 2017, you will need to reapply. You can check your records to determine the expiration date.

In 2017, the Rhode Island General Assembly, passed a law that granted a four year exemption certificate. The certificates were specifically for charitable, educational and religious organizations. For organizations who have certificates issued before July 1, 2017, the law states they will expire on June 30, 2021.

Reapplication must be made by July 1, 2021 to obtain a valid certificate. The fee is $25. The application is not yet available. However, you may sign up for a notification when it is ready by completing this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BLCGGPW.
