Government Shutdown Could Delay Tax Refunds

The IRS is one of several agencies affected by the shutdown that has stretched into its second week. Michael Canole, assistant tax administrator at the state Division of Taxation, and Pat Thompson were interviewed about the shutdown by Turn to 10 (NBC Channel 10 News) and how it may affect receiving tax return money from the IRS.

Tax experts told NBC 10 News today, Thursday, January 3, 2019, that if the shutdown continues into late January, people might potentially experience delays with their returns.

“My recommendation would probably be to hold off on any of those large purchases because you’re not really sure if the timing is going to be right to get the refund,” said Pat Thompson, a CPA with Piccerelli Gilstein & Company. Click [here] for the full report.
