As a reminder to businesses, the minimum wage goes up on October 1, 2020 to $11.50 in Rhode Island. In March of this year, Governor Gina Raimondo signed a bill to increase the minimum wage starting on October 1st. This is a $1.00 increase from the current minimum wage of $10.50. No future increases have been announced.
The minimum wage in Massachusetts is $12.75 (effective January 1, 2020). It will go up in $.75 increments each year to reach $15 per hour in January 2023.
The minimum wage in Connecticut is $12.00 (effective September 1, 2020). It will increase to $13 per hour, effective August 1, 2021; $14 per hour, effective July 1, 2022; $15 per hour, effective June 1, 2023; and it will be indexed annually beginning January 1, 2024.
The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour, which has not changed since July 24, 2009.
