For taxpayers who have not received their Economic Impact Payment, the IRS has shared that the Post Office may not have been able to deliver your check because either your address changed, or the address that they have on file for you is incorrect.
The Post Office doesn’t forward government checks and returns them to the government. If the IRS receives your payment back, they will update the Get My Payment tool on their website to say “Need More Information” and allow you to enter your bank account information for direct deposit. If you don’t provide your bank account information, the IRS will hold your payment until it receives your updated address, which you can do on the IRS web page “Address Changes“. The website also provides information for tracing payments you never received.
