How did you prepare for your internship job interview?
First, I met with a career advisor in the career center at PC. Then I practiced interview questions and prepared questions for the interviewer. I also researched the company’s industries, services and people. Finally, I made updates and edits to my resume to bring to the interview.
How do you become the intern that gets hired?
Work hard, do the best you can, learn as much as you can. And again, ask questions.
Why did you choose to work at a local firm as opposed to a Big Four firm?
I receive a more well rounded experience in both tax and audit, and it allows me to get a feel for what area I like best.
What advice would you give to an intern about to begin their first tax season?
It will be stressful, but it’s a great learning experience. So stay organized by keeping a running list of the returns and open items for each return. And again, ask questions.
What do you enjoy most about working in the profession?
There is always something new to learn and everyone is extremely helpful in answering any questions I have.
What one piece of advice would you give a new staff accountant?
Work hard and learn as much as you can.
